I’m absolutely with Mr. Shipnuck here. I’m a big big Tony Finau fan — I mean who isn’t at this point — but one total PGA Tour win just doesn’t strike me as an “automatic” reservation on the team. If X-Man bests another great field and bags his third crown I say he goes to Paris.
You need Tour-caliber performance with a firmer feel and lower spin on short shots. Three-layer core system with progressive compression for max energy transfer at impact. Dual-spin cover for enhanced spin on scoring shots and five-layer overall construction for premium performance throughout the bag. Cast urethane cover for feel and durability.
I love Finau but the fact is he’s won exactly one tournament in five years on Tour. Aronimink would be Xander’s third win in 14 months. Finau has a ton of firepower but Schauffele is a closer. I’d take X-Man.
Players who are okay with outdated performance don’t need new clubs. If that’s you fine but you’ll always be lagging behind the players who do invest in new gear which is vastly superior to older equipment.
I just don’t see Phil as a lock. Now is an excellent time for him to become an assistant captain and a captain-in-training. I don’t see Furyk having any trouble telling Phil that. He’s had a great run. He’ll be an interesting and original captain. It’s the cruelest and greatest aspect of golf that Phil still needs to play his way on to the team at this late date.
